Prairie Grove

BATTLEFIELD STATE PARK Local Civil War enthusiast Steve Burgess will display and talk about Civil War items from his personal collection from 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Officials at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, U.S. 62, offer daily guided tours from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tours include the Morrow house, which served as the Confederate headquarters, and the Latta house, which was owned by a family with 12 children. Admission is $3/adults, $2/ages 6-12 and $10/families. Visitors can also peruse the Hindman Hall Museum in the Visitor Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum includes Civil War artifacts, weapons, videos and a diorama about the Battle of Prairie Grove. The museum will be closed for about 10 weeks beginning July 28 while new roofing is installed to the museum.
