Finding focus : PHOTOGRAPHER’S ‘ACCIDENTAL’ IMAGES RESULT IN NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTION, PROJECT

BY KEVIN KINDER Northwest Arkansas Times

There are no shortage of words that can be used to describe a human face. The hurts and happiness of lives reflect in blue eyes, in taut lips, in wrinkles, in furrowed brows. - Sunday, July 20, 2008

AT HOME : Excuse me, do you have an artistic license?

Marni Jameson marnij@comcast.net

Who hasn’t opened a home magazine, lusted after some gorgeous décor and yearned: “I want that” ? The fantasy lasts until we think of the cost zapping the kids’ college fund, the hassles of tracking down the coveted item or of having an artist re-create it, the shipping nuisance and the risk it will turn out uglier than Shrek. We remind ourselves that this lovely furnishing has been shot at just the right angle in just the right light, then digitally enhanced. Reality rains down like an ice shower until we slap ourselves into cognition and turn the page. - Sunday, July 20, 2008

FROM THE GARDEN : Great easy roses for gardeners who think they can’t grow them

Lynn Rogers lbr845@cox.net

Roses have charmed gardeners for centuries. Fossil remains found in a slate deposit in Colorado show that roses grew in North America an estimated 40 million years ago. There are about 200 species of roses worldwide: 35 are indigenous to the United States, and 15 or so are native to the Ozark Plateau. Roses were cultivated by the Chinese more than 5,000 years ago and have been used as confetti, medicine, food, money and to make perfume. - Sunday, July 20, 2008

THE ROCKWOOD FILES : When feeling burned out, make that ‘other to do’ list

Gwen Rockwood rockwoodfiles@cox.net

Ilove a list. I write out a new “to do” list at least four or five times a week because it keeps me focused. Plus I get that little wave of control freak satisfaction when I mark through a task. - Sunday, July 20, 2008
