Man arrested on suspicion of molesting 8-year-old girl

A Summers man is in jail for allegedly molesting an 8-year-old-girl.
John Henry Dayberry, 68, of 10403 Round Hill Road was arrested Monday on felony charges of seconddegree sexual assault.
According to a sheriff ’s department arrest report, the victim told her mother that Dayberry had touched her inappropriately underneath her clothing.
On June 27, the victim’s mother took the child to the Children’s Safety Center in Springdale, where an investigator interviewed the girl and was told that Dayberry had touched the girl inappropriately under her clothing on several occasions at his residence beginning from the time the victim entered the first grade.
On July 10, Dayberry was interviewed by detectives and told them he would wrestle and play with the victim and that he may have touched her inappropriately accidentally, but never intentionally.
Another interview by Washington County detectives with Maria Dayberry, John Henry Dayberry’s wife, revealed that Maria Dayberry was suspicious of her husband and that on Dec. 23, 2007, the victim told Maria Dayberry that John Henry Dayberry had touched her inappropriately. Maria Dayberry told detectives that she believed the victim and afterwards she tried to monitor her husband whenever he was with the victim.
John Henry Dayberry was arrested when he went back to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department to further explain that he had never intentionally touched the victim inappropriately. He was booked into the Washington County Detention Center.
