FARMINGTON - Area firefighters extinguished a two-story blaze along North Appleby Road late Thursday morning.

Farmington fire Chief Mark Cunningham said the cause of the blaze hasn't been determined and is currently being investigated by the Washington County Fire Marshal's Office. No one was injured.

Firefighters from Farmington, Wedington and Prairie Grove responded to the fire at about 11: 30 a.m.

"We were for tunate to have several firemen that dropped by the station to try on their bunker gear when the fire was reported," Cunningham said. "From the time of dispatch, it only took us four minutes to get to the house. We had the fire under control within 15 or 20 minutes."

The owners of the home, Mort and Kim Marshall, weren't home when the fire ignited.

The residence was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

"It was a total loss even though we saved half of it," Cunningham said. "There was just too much smoke and fire damage. "

The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross also responded to the scene to offer the family emergency housing assistance.

In addition to no one being injured, Cunningham said firefighters were able to save the dogs in a kennel located next to the residence.

"They're dog breeders," he said. "We were fortunate to save them all."
