Both the senior and junior Washington County 4-H horse judging teams placed first at the state 4-H horse show July 7-9 in Benton.

“ The kids worked really hard. They really take this contest seriously, ” Ted Sheets, judging coach, said. “ This is the second year in a row that Washington County 4-H had a winning team and a high point individual. ”

Members of the senior team were Lucas Sheets, Sarah Mooney, Grace Colly and Emily Mashie. Mooney was the fourth highest individual in points in the senior division and Mashie was fifth. The junior team members were Skye and Starr Hawkins and Maggie Fancher. Skye Hawkins was the high point individual in the junior division.

In addition to the accomplishments of the judging team, Matthew Fales was recognized as the state champion in Western riding in the junior division, and both Hawkins placed in the halter and showmanship categories.

The senior judging team will travel to the regional contest in Virginia at the end of this month and will represent Arkansas at the national contest in November in Louisville, Ky.
