Greenland survives the storm

As the city clerk for Greenland I would like to take a moment to share a few words of praise and appreciation. The last few months were very grim, and for me, I can honestly say I was unsure of the city of Greenland's future and if there was even going to be one. The worries of losing our school was overwhelming to so many who live here, and I was really unsure of the outcome - but what I have witnessed in the last few weeks to me was heartwarming.

The community came together and took a stand to save our schools from annexation. The generous donations and the fundraisers all coming together and offering their time was amazing, and I would like to give credit due to Greenland Police Chief Gary Ricker. He worked around the clock to raise money and campaign to save the school, not just because his children attend the school but because he honestly cares about the future here for everyone, and I think every citizen that lives here should feel assured that he does his best to make sure everyone is safe and protected and served along with our fine officers at the police department. I work with these people and I know personally they each care about this city and making sure it's a safe place to live and that it's something to be proud of.

The mayor and city council members also have had their share of disagreements, and they have put aside all their differences to focus on the one thing they all can agree on - and that's the future for Greenland and making sure there is a home to provide for the families who we leave behind. I am very proud of all of them for their efforts in working together as a team. I also know them personally, and I can tell you each person has a reason for why they are on the council and they all want to bring forth change. The Planning Commission has worked many long hours on designing the master plan for the city of Greenland and they deserve a big pat on the back, because it's well on its way to being completed. I think you can look forward to some exciting new changes for your city ! Remember, you as Greenland citizens have the power to voice your opinions, and if there is something you feel should be changed or addressed you should attend the city council meetings that are held every second Monday of the month. Your thoughts and opinions are important. I feel that our city has weathered a storm. It has made it before through many and we will survive this one too. I don't know about you, but I see sunny skies ahead !
