McKinzie, Lions too much for Pioneers on Friday

GRAVETTE ó Just too many weapons at the disposal of Gravette quarterback Ethan McKinzie, said Gentry coach Brian Little after the Gravette Lions raced up and down the field in their 1-4 Arivalry game here Friday night.
McKinzie passed for 270 yards to six different receivers and four touchdowns and the Lions notched their third mercy-rule victory of the season 51-19 against the Pioneers.
The 1-4 A defending champion Lions (4-1, 2-0 in 1-4 A ) built a 34-12 lead at the half, overcoming a staggering 85 yards on 10 penalties.
ì We havenít had that problem in the first four games, î Gravette coach Bill Harrelson said. ì All of a sudden, we got hit with them tonight. It was ridiculous. î
They cleared that problem up at the half and had none in the second half.
Gentry (1-4, 0-2 ) fell for a fourth consecutive week.
McKinzie, who completed 15 of 23 passes, threw three of his touchdowns in the first half. He also capped a game-opening drive with a plunge from the 1.
He put the Lions up 14-0 scrambling from one sideline to the other before finally firing 19 yards to Quintin Eden alone in the corner of the end zone.
Colton Moorman, playing for the injured Travis Eden, rolled around right end for a 21-0 lead on the Lionsí third possession.
Eden went down with an injured left knee after hauling in a 9-yard pass. Gravette also lost Nick Melton to injury in the first quarter.
Harrelson lauded Moorman, who played five different positions ó linebacker, cornerback, fullback, receiver and tailback.
ì What he is is a backup quarterback, î he said. ì Itís unbelievable that he can go in, score a touchdown and make three or four catches. î
The Pioneers converted three of three fourth downs by Lionsí penalty, one leading to a score.
Caleb Ramsey, who finished 11 for 25 for 139 yards through the air, connected with Justin Stewart screaming out of the backfield on wheel routes twice for secondquarter touchdowns. The first went for 29 yards, the other for 11.
After the 29-yarder, Quintin Eden returned the kickoff 89 yards up the middle for a 28-6 lead.
With 30 ticks left in the half, McKinzie threw to Tyler Anderson on the home sidelines and he raced 18 yards to the end zone for the 34-12 lead. It capped a 77-yard drive executed in under 1 minute, 30 seconds that Harrelson called the backbreaker.
ì The execution was great, î he said. ì I think that set the tone for the second half. î
McKinzieís final scoring strike covered 58 yards to David Oí Brien, who eluded Gentryís secondary 10 yards downfield for a 41-12 lead.
Hayden McAfee picked off Ramseyís second interception of the night, setting up a 3-yard burst for a 35-point lead by Teddy Selby. Selby gained 72 yards on 14 carries. His longest run was 25 yards.
Cody Monteeís 30-yard field goal capped the rout.
Gravette subbed the entire fourth quarter.
Gentry coach Brian Little said the Pioneers needed to create momentum.
ì We have to instead of creating momentum for the other team, î he said. ì It doesnít help when the other team youíre playing is very good. î
Ramsey, Gentryís leading rusher, carried 26 times for 88 yards.
