Toss that hat right in

Perhaps you believe you could do a better job.
Well, here's your chance.
This November we will have the chance to elect an entirely new city council – or the same one, or a combination of both – depending on how things go in the next six days.
Aug. 26 is the last day to register one's campaign with the county in order to be on the ballot.
As it stands, only four people have thrown their names into the mix. There is plenty of room for more.
This year we will vote for two representatives from each of three districts. That means that if there were just two people running for each seat we'd have a dozen candidates. And remember, right now we have only four.
And it doesn't have to stop with 12. A ballot can hold as many names as is necessary. The only basic requirement is that the filing be done properly.
If nobody steps up to oppose the four incumbents who have already filed, those four names won't even appear on the ballot. They will simply be designated winners without a vote being cast for them.
So, do you have any ideas for the city's future ? Are you thinking about ways we can save money and still provide the services we need ? Maybe you have a plan on making more money without putting a lot of the burden on the taxpayers – your friends and neighbors.
Interested ? Think it's something you could do ?
Your city needs you. Are you up for the challenge ?
If so, run, don't walk, to http: // www. co. benton. ar. us / BCClerk / index. html. That is the Web site for the Benton County clerk's office. Along the left hand side look for candidate filing and click on it for details on what to do.
Then, get it done within the next six days or miss out on this chance.
Of course your entering the race is no guarantee you will win. But if you do lose, at least you will have tried. And where would we be if some others hadn't put themselves out there and at least tried ?
