BENTON COUNTY - Longtime U. S. Rep. Marion Berry, D-Ark., will campaign in Benton County on behalf of Bill Williams, the Democratic candidate for Benton County judge.

On Friday, Williams will join Berry - a 12-year member of the U. S. House of Representatives from the 1 st Congressional District of Arkansas - to meet voters together, beginning at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Icehouse Coffee Shop in Gravette. At 9: 30 a. m., they will be at Java on the Square in Bentonville. At 11 a. m., they will be at Fred's Hickory Inn in Bentonville.

County judge is not a judicial position. The county judge is the title for the chief executive in county government.

On his visit, Berry will answer questions about the recent passage by Congress of the economic bailout bill, Williams said.

"Congressman Berry has been at the center of discussions on the financial rescue package, and as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, he will be hearing the secretary of the treasury's reports on the progress of the recovery program. I can't imagine anyone better able to answer questions on our current situation," Williams said in a press release.

He is eager to have Berry on the campaign trail on his behalf, not in the least because they both appreciate fiscal responsibility, Williams said Monday.

"I met Congressman Berry in 2001, and since then I've followed his activities with considerable interest. In many ways, he represents the sort of philosophy that I appreciate when it comes to finance. At least he believes in balancing the budget and not spending more than we have. And coming from Arkansas, where that's required by (the state constitution ), that just seems to make sense to a whole lot of us. So I called him and asked if he'd come over this way, and he very graciously agreed to," Williams said.

Williams will face Republican Dave Bisbee of Rogers in the Nov. 4 election.
