— ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Stagecoach ride set for Sept. 12-14 The fifth annual Butterfield Commemorative Stagecoach Ride will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Pea Ridge National Military Park with the arrival of the Missouri Stagecoach. Events at the military park include a Dutch oven cooking contest, music and a camp out. The stagecoach will leave Pea Ridge at 9 a.m. Sept. 13 and ride through Northwest Arkansas making stops at Avoca Town Hall, Old Wire School and Cross Hollow. The stagecoach ride for Sept. 14 will include stops at Fitzgerald Station, the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks and Butterfield Trail Village, where the ride will end at 4: 45 p.m. The Butterfield Overland Mail first came through Arkansas on Sept. 18, 1858. This year’s event marks the 150 th anniversary of that ride. This year’s stagecoach will carry letters from area schoolchildren. No other wagons or stagecoaches will be allowed on the ride, but riders on horseback will be allowed to join the event for a fee of $ 15. The ride is sponsored by Heritage Trail Partners, a nonprofit group designed to educate residents on historic travel in Northwest Arkansas.
